Project Management is the most efficient way of introducing change.
Project management approaches the management of the change process
by:
defining what has to be accomplished, generally in terms of time, cost,
and various technical and quality performance parameters;
developing a plan to achieve these and then working this plan, ensuring
that progress is maintained in line with these objectives;
using appropriate project management techniques and tools to plan, monitor
and maintain progress;
employing persons skilled in project management – the project
manager – who has responsibility for introducing the change and
is accountable for its successful accomplishment.
Project Management may be defined as the discipline of managing projects
successfully.
Project Management techniques apply throughout the project lifecycle,
from the earliest stages of project definition through implementation
and into post implementation phases.
It comprises the management of all that is involved in achieving the
project objectives safely and within agreed time, cost, technical, quality
and other performance criteria.
Project management provides the “single point of integrative
responsibility” needed to ensure that everything on the project
is managed effectively to deliver a successful project.
The Europartnership team have used a number of proprietary Project
Management techniques over the years. Approaches and software to support
projects have evolved. Currently in vogue for large projects is the
methodology of PRINS2 and Microsoft Project as the software support.
Programme management brings an additional layer of management when
it is necessary to orchestrate a number of inter-related projects or
elements.
Programmes managed by Europartnership include a EUR 25m business transformation
involving a complex coordination of people, processes and systems; a
EUR 2.4 business sell off (disentanglement) as a going concern from
a previously integrated organisation; and the regionalisation involving
reduction from 25 National warehouses into 3 European Distribution Centres.
